在坛之浦弥陀寺幽静的夜晚，盲人琵琶手芳一正在练习自己最喜爱的曲目《平家物语》。突然，一个武士的声音粗暴地叫：“芳一！”他不知道，自己将会穿越时空，进入一个奇幻的世界。他更不知道，那个奇幻的世界正在杀死他。 日本有很多神魔妖怪，数量之多至于有“八百万神”的说法。你听说过哪些日本的妖怪吗？九尾狐？河童？天狗？猫又？这些妖怪是如何被编造出来的？最早的日本妖怪是哪一个？现代有没有出现新的妖怪呢？古代和现代的日本人对这些妖怪到底有什么态度的转变？日本的妖怪有多少是自己原创的？哪些又是从外国引进的？ 这次分享，我们会讨论日本的妖怪文化。从一个经典的鬼故事说起，谈谈日本妖怪的发展脉络：从《古事记》到鸟山石燕的《画图百鬼夜行》和小泉八云的《怪谈》，从《山海经》到《史记》和《平家物语》，从葛饰北斋的漫画到芥川龙之介的《河童》，从《精灵宝可梦》到《原神》和《绝区零》。
On a quiet night at the Amidaji temple at Dan-no-ura, the blind biwa player Hōichi is practising his favourite piece, The Tale of the Heike. Suddenly a samurai's voice roughly calls out: "Hōichi!" He does not know that he is about to cross time and enter a fantastical world. Still less does he know that this fantastical world is killing him. Japan has a great many gods, demons and monsters, so many that there is a saying of "eight million gods". Which Japanese yōkai have you heard of? The nine-tailed fox? The kappa? The tengu? The nekomata? How were these yōkai invented? Which was the earliest Japanese yōkai? Have new yōkai appeared in modern times? How have the attitudes of Japanese people towards these yōkai changed between past and present? How many Japanese yōkai are original creations, and which were imported from abroad? In this session we will discuss Japan's yōkai culture. Starting from a classic ghost story, we will trace the development of Japanese yōkai: from the Kojiki to Toriyama Sekien's Illustrated Night Parade of a Hundred Demons and Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan, from the Classic of Mountains and Seas to the Records of the Grand Historian and The Tale of the Heike, from Hokusai's Manga to Akutagawa Ryūnosuke's Kappa, and from Pokémon to Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.
