This session describes the origins, development and categories of fan fiction, and discusses why historical fan fiction has developed and where it stands today. Questions: What is fan fiction (fanfic)? What do you make of collective creation by readers? What is historical fan fiction? How have history and fan fiction come together? What is OOC fan fiction? How has fan fiction developed today? What motivates the development of fan fiction? What categories of fan fiction are there? Which familiar works could be seen as fan fiction? What do you make of the growth of slash fanfic and "shipping"? Why are both the creators and the audience of slash fiction mainly women?
