This session will discuss some small stories from Japan's Meiji Restoration. Questions: What is your impression of the Meiji Restoration? Why is Meiji Ishin translated as "Meiji Restoration"? Is that a reasonable translation? What small problems did this process of modernisation bring? How were they solved? What do you make of the clash between traditional ideas and foreign thought?
