This session will introduce and discuss the origins and history of the dragon dollars of the late Qing, and introduce their different varieties and how they came about. Questions: 1. Why were machine-struck coins made, and why the dragon design? 2. Why did different provinces issue different kinds of dragon dollars, and what are their designs and rarity like? 3. What was the dispute between the yuan and the tael, and where did the "one yuan" come from? 4. Did the Qing eventually issue a nationally unified dragon dollar?
