This session will discuss the development and changes of the Huai–Si river basin centred on Xuzhou, and their effects today. How was the Huai–Si basin formed? What role has the Huai–Si region played in history? Why have rebellions and revolutions so often broken out in this region? How have changing hydrological conditions, including shifts in the course of the Yellow River, affected the region's ecology? How have history and geography shaped people's economic lives?
