The Song of Roland is the most famous of the Frankish chansons de geste and had a profound influence on later generations: in the Renaissance, Italy produced another work, Orlando Furioso. Questions to spark curiosity: What famous tales of knights have you heard? What is the prototype of the Arthurian legends? What other famous European epics are there? What does chivalry mean to you?
