Having accomplished the feat of making three of his daughters empresses, Fujiwara no Michinaga composed the waka: "This world, I think, is my world; like the full moon, nothing is lacking." But after Michinaga's death, Japan entered an age of turmoil. The splendid aristocratic society of the Heian period gradually came to an end, and the rising warrior class stepped onto the stage of history.
